So far this series has focused on a variety of themed election maps, from the standard interactive electoral distribution map to specialized subjects such as party based book buying habits and battleground state issue break down distribution maps. In today’s posting I plan on focusing on an entire web site and not just detailed election polling number maps. The site I will be focusing on today is definitely a treat for statistics lovers. But, even if statistics instill fear into your heart, you definitely should check out this site because I believe it is probably the most complex and most complete election data and information source on the internet. In this presidential election season the media has focused heavily on “Key Battleground States”, or must win states. Allot of this focus in the media has targeted the all important “swing vote” as the time to election nears. Recent polls still indicate that swing voters play heavily into the outcome of this election. In the first post of this series I presented a gallery of Google offered maps, including the standard red\blue poll map. In this installment I want to lighten things up a little bit. As stated in my first post, the principle goal of this series is to look at various online map offerings related to the 2008 elections. Tonight(Tuesday 7th 2008) is the second presidential debate between Republican Senator John McCain and Democratic Senator Barack Obama. While the debate is interesting in itself, what is more interesting is what viewers at home are searching for in their browsers during the debate. Thanks to Google, this information is available with their Trends page which keeps a running tally of the most popular search terms entered into Google. Continue Reading »
